This volume, La pittura: L’Accademia Clementina, serves as the catalogue for the 1979 exhibition held at Accademia Clementina in Bologna from 8 September to 25 November. It explores the rich tradition of eighteenth-century Bolognese painting, engaging with the institutional history of the academy and its role in the artistic life of Emilia-Romagna. The essays and illustrated entries examine topics of academic training, studio practice, patronage and the confluence of architecture, sculpture and painting in that period. With some 412 black-and-white illustrations and detailed scholar-texts, the work contributes to studies of Baroque-Rococo art, art academies’ role in the early modern period, and regional Italian art history.
