The Thujopsis dolabrata, commonly known as the Hiba Arborvitae, is a large, evergreen conifer native to Japan. It features glossy, dark green scale-like leaves arranged in flattened sprays, with a distinctive silvery-white underside that creates a shimmering effect. The tree has a dense, pyramidal growth habit and develops reddish-brown, fibrous bark. Highly ornamental, this slow-growing conifer is valued for its fragrant, rot-resistant wood, commonly used in traditional Japanese architecture. It thrives in cool, humid climates and makes an excellent specimen for gardens, hedges, or bonsai.
