This work traces the history of pharmacy in Naples from its earliest roots in conventual spezierie (monastic medicinal shops) through the growth of urban artisan pharmacy workshops up to the 19th century. The book looks at how pharmacies were organized, who worked in them, how medicines were made, and how the relationship with the public and authorities changed over time.
