Volume 2 of the series chronicles in substantial depth the themes of architecture, decoration, and scenography in the provincial city of Piacenza during the 18th century. It is presented in the format of a richly illustrated exhibition catalogue (Palazzo Farnese, Piacenza, October–November 1979), and examines palace façades, interiors, grand staircases, ironwork, stuccoes, villas, castles, churches and oratories, as well as scenic productions and festival set-design by prominent artists of the period. This work thus contributes to the understanding of the material culture and visual environment of a lesser-studied urban centre in the late Baroque and early Neoclassical era, offering architectural typologies, artisan biographies and iconographic evidence of elite patronage and ceremonial display.
