“Here There Are No Children” is a powerful visual memoir by Thomas Geve, first published in Italian in 2011 by Einaudi in the Frontiere Einaudi series. At only thirteen, Geve was deported to Auschwitz in 1943 and later transferred to Gross-Rosen and Buchenwald, liberated in 1945. After liberation, he created 79 colored drawings on the backs of SS forms, documenting his ordeal with stark clarity and childlike perspective. This illustrated volume (around 180 pages) preserves that haunting testimony: an unfiltered impression of suffering, survival, and memory, where crayons become tools to confront the abyss. The book stands as a unique act of artistic resistance and historical witness.
