Plant Description

Quercus vallonea, also known as Vallonea Oak, is a majestic deciduous tree native to southeastern Europe and Asia Minor. Renowned for its impressive size and longevity, this oak species thrives in warm, dry climates and is particularly abundant in the region of Tricase, Italy. Quercia vallonea di Tricase is characterized by its deeply lobed, leathery foglie that provide ample shade during the scorching Mediterranean summers. The acorns of this species, enclosed in large, scaly cups, were traditionally used for tanning and dyeing due to their high tannin content. Quercia vallonea Tricase prefers well-drained soil and full sun exposure. Its deep root system makes it exceptionally drought-tolerant, allowing it to flourish in arid environments.
