Quercus frainetto, also known as the Hungarian Oak, is a majestic deciduous tree prized for its impressive size and distinctive foliage. Native to southeastern Europe, this oak species thrives in regions with warm summers and cool winters. Quercus frainetto 'Schmidt', a popular cultivar, showcases the species' characteristic deeply lobed leaves, which emerge a vibrant green in spring and mature to a rich, dark hue, aptly named Quercus frainetto Forest Green, in summer.
This fast-growing oak is adaptable to various soil types and exhibits excellent heat and drought tolerance. Its expansive, rounded crown, often referred to as the Quercus frainetto Hungarian Crown, provides ample shade, making it an ideal centerpiece in parks and large gardens. While young Quercus frainetto ten specimens may require some pruning to develop a strong structure, mature trees require minimal maintenance, offering generations of beauty and grandeur.
