Il mondo dei vinti is a work of oral history documenting the lives of peasant and mountain folk in the valleys around Cuneo, Piemonte. Through hundreds of interviews (270 people), Revelli collects testimonies on hardship, poverty, war, migration, and the transformative social shifts following industrialization. Stylistically, the voices are preserved — the spoken language, the memories, the silences — giving texture to a vanished rural world and the dignity of those often ignored. The book contributes to the traditions of history from below, at the intersection of sociology, anthropology, and memoir, offering a counter-narrative to dominant histories and enabling reflection on memory, loss, and social change.
