I Nibelunghi is the Italian version of Das Nibelungenlied, the great medieval German epic, translated and edited by Laura Mancinelli. The poem, composed in Middle High German ca. 1200, is structured in 39 cantos (or “avventure”) and narrates a sweeping saga of heroism, love, betrayal, and vengeance. In this edition, Mancinelli offers a faithful translation, critical apparatus, an introduction that situates the work in its literary and historical context, illustrations (including eight color plates/miniate medievali), and formats that underscored its value as a collector’s item (hardcover, dust jacket, slipcase, protective acetate cover). The translation emphasizes both the poetic form and the narrative drama, bringing alive the mythic-legendary world of dragons, royal courts, magic, feuds, and tragic destiny.
