Published for World Food Day on 16 October 1991, De arbore is an illustrated exhibition catalogue based on manuscripts and printed works held by Rome's Biblioteca Casanatense. It examines trees as subjects of natural knowledge and as elements of cultural history. Its interdisciplinary scope encompasses botany, food, architecture, theatre, law, philosophy, symbolism, heraldry, religion, literature and technology. The volume brings bibliographic and iconographic materials into dialogue, tracing how trees have been classified, represented and interpreted across disciplines and historical periods. With 811 pages and additional plates, it serves as a documentary resource for the history of books, science and visual culture.
