Product Description

The Cycas revoluta seeds are large, oval, and encased in a tough, glossy shell. Their colors range from deep reddish-brown to orange, with a slightly textured surface marked by subtle ridges. Measuring about 2-3 cm in length, these seeds are known for their hard outer coat, which protects the rich, starchy endosperm inside. As a relic of ancient plant evolution, these prehistoric seeds require patience to germinate but reward growers with one of the most iconic and slow-growing cycads in cultivation.

Cultivation

Soil/substrate type: Well-draining, sandy or loamy soil with good aeration.

Ideal sowing depth: Half-buried, with the top portion exposed.

Moisture and watering needs: Keep soil moist but avoid excessive watering to prevent rot.

Temperature requirements: 25-30°C (77-86°F) for optimal germination.

Germination timeframe: 1 to 6 months, as cycads have slow and unpredictable sprouting.

Recommended sowing season: Spring or early summer for best success.

Special treatments: Soak seeds in warm water for 24-48 hours before planting to soften the tough seed coat. Scarification is generally unnecessary.

Common germination issues: Overwatering may cause fungal issues, and low temperatures will slow or prevent germination. Be patient, as Cycas revoluta seeds take time to sprout.
